Words When It Counts

These terms cover how Words When It Counts works, what you can expect from it, and what it expects from you. Using the app means you accept them.
You answer questions about an occasion — a eulogy, a wedding toast, a retirement, a welcome — and the app uses an AI service to write a speech from your answers. You can then ask for a limited number of revisions, save the result, and read it from The Lectern.
If you'd rather write a speech yourself, The Desk gives you a blank page to do that, with no AI involved unless you choose to send your draft to Table Read for an AI-assisted reshape.
The text is machine-generated. It can be wrong. It can misstate a fact you provided, blend details together, or include something you never said. It can also produce writing that simply is not right for the moment.
You are responsible for reading your speech in full and correcting it before delivering it to anyone. Do not treat the output as accurate, complete, or ready to use without review. The app is a drafting aid, not an author.
You keep any rights you have in the answers you enter. As between you and us, the speech produced for you is yours to use however you like, including publicly and commercially. We claim no ownership of it.
Because the text is generated by a model, we cannot promise it is original or that no similar text has been produced for someone else.
Do not use the app to create content that harasses, defames, or impersonates anyone, that incites violence or hatred, that is sexually explicit, or that breaks the law. Do not attempt to interfere with the service, evade its limits, or access it by means other than the app itself.
The service may refuse a request it judges to fall outside acceptable use. When that happens the app tells you, and the attempt does not consume what you paid for.
Speech generation is bought one at a time. Each purchase covers one speech, plus a limited number of revisions of that speech. Revisions apply to that speech only and cannot be saved for later.
If a speech is not delivered to you — a network failure, a service problem, or a refused request — the purchase is not consumed and you can try again without paying twice.
The Desk is free to use. Writing and saving your own speech there costs nothing.
Table Read is a separate one-time purchase, applied to a speech you wrote yourself in The Desk, and includes a limited number of reshape passes on that draft. The same protection applies here as with speech generation: if a reshape is not delivered, the purchase is not consumed.
The Full Lectern is a one-time purchase tied to your Apple Account. You can restore it on your devices using the Restore Purchases option.
All purchases are handled by Apple. Refunds are requested from Apple, not from us, and are granted at Apple's discretion under its own terms.
The app depends on a third-party AI service and on your internet connection. We do not guarantee it will be available, uninterrupted, or error-free, and we may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of it. Where a change would affect a purchase you have already made and not used, we will try to honor it.
The app is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this may not apply to you.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of a speech the app produced. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid through it in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
How the app handles your information is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Apple is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for the app or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide support for the app. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
These terms may change. The current version is always posted here with its date. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here removes any consumer protection you have under the law of the place you live.
